As reported in the President's office, Stoltenberg in the Riga castle is scheduled to meet with President Raimonds Vejonis during which it is planned to discuss the security situation in the region, the extension of the NATO presence in the Baltic States and Poland, as well as joint measures to counter hybrid threats.

During the visit, the NATO Secretary General also plans to meet with Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis, state Secretary of the Ministry of foreign Affairs Andrei Pildegovics and Minister of defense Raimonds Bergmanis and the Chairman of the Seimas Inara, Murniece.

The ceremony of the battle group completes the process of deploying a multinational NATO battalion in the Baltic States and Poland. In the ceremony of meeting of allies in Latvia will be attended by the President, defense Minister, commander of the National armed forces Leonid Kalnins, as well as distinguished guests from other NATO countries and the States the soldiers of which became a battle group led by Canada.

The decision to increase the presence of allies in the Baltic States and Poland was taken at the Warsaw summit of the Alliance last summer. In Latvia in the battle group consists of over 1,000 soldiers from Albania, Italy, Canada, Poland, Slovenia and Spain, as well as military equipment.
