However, according to the club’s sports director Tomasz Rząsa, the return of Maciej Skorża is “realistic,” a statement that has only fueled further discussions. The club quickly announced that a temporary coach will lead the team until the end of the season, opting for Mariusz Rumak who is familiar with the club.
Nonetheless, there is still uncertainty about who will take over the team from the 2024/2025 season. Unofficial reports have linked Lech with their former coach, Maciej Skorża, but when asked about these rumors, the sports director Tomasz Rząsa stated, “Mariusz Rumak’s return was possible, so Skorża’s return is also realistic.
Maciej is respected and valued here. I’m sure many fans would like to see him in Poznań.”
However, Rząsa was quick to add, “We are absolutely focused on the here and now,” in an attempt to quell the ongoing discussions. Toward the end of 2023, Skorża left his position as the coach of the Japanese team Urawa Red Diamonds.
In the past months, he achieved success by winning the Asian Champions League with his team and participating in the FIFA Club World Cup, where they were eliminated after a match against Manchester City. Skorża has previously won the Polish championship four times, including twice with Lech Poznań, and is regarded as one of the best Polish coaches.
